I just put my hand under the base to feel the temp (on the other side from the steam wand of course). Yeah, it's designed for art, and you have brilliant control; however, the spout has taken a lot of getting used to. You have to pour much slower, or milk comes cascading over the 'corners' where the spout joins the jug. I've been using it for a while now, and just starting to get good results.
