The easiest aspect for me to address without it needing too much thought.
Bliss Coffee Roasters in the Hunter Valley Gardens do a pretty great job with their beautiful red La Marzocco, and their house blend ‘Wild Bliss’. I tried it as an espresso, a ristretto and a long black, and whilst they were all fine, the long black yesterday was definitely the standout for me. They also sell my fourth favourite drink in the whole world - Phoenix Organic Cola - so that earns them extra points. (It sits behind coffee, red wine and Rooibos, ok?!). Oh, and everybody else were definitely fans of their iced coffee.
I also packed the syphon but left the metho-burner at home. Big oops. (Note to self: must get butane burner asap). However, with some ingenuity on Adrian’s behalf we found a workable solution: invert syphon’s lower flask and hold the silly thing over the wok burner on the BBQ. Have been playing with a lower dose after having a chat with Yeeza, and the Rwandan I took away was lovely; very creamy and floral.
Drew also surprised me with a Bodum Kona drip-filter-thingy. I am yet to master it, but the first efforts produced more body than syphon brew, but with muddier flavours - I expect more experimentation will follow; another brewing method to master!
