It just occurred to me, as I was reading Dave’s post about the upcoming Olympics, that I know some Olympians!
I know three members of the Sailing Team - I used to sail against Nathan Outteridge (49ers) and Krystal Weir (Yngling) back in my Flying 11 and 29er days, and I knew Tom Slingsby at primary school and at Gosford Sailing Club.
Also have a very tenuous link to shooter Warren Potent - he’s a member of CoffeeSnobs too!

because soccer is an under 23 event - i probably don’t know any of the team personally…
i knew a whole bunch at the 2000 and 2004 olympics’. i played with about 7 of the socceroos from the last world cup - and there should still be a bunch playing in the team at the 2010 world cup.

Nooo. Nathan was always top 3. Hannah and I were more ‘mid-fleeters’, usually came in the 40s and 50s (out of around 100). I think Krystal usually beat us, but there might have been a few times we came in before her.
Actually Nathan’s got one of those amazing stories - he broke his back after falling asleep driving in about ‘04 - they thought he’d be lucky to walk again, let alone competitive sailing!

I found out over the weekend that I went to school with two of the olympic rowers!
Sam Loch is in the mens eight and Matt Ryan in the four.
I think the four might have broken a world record in qualifying yesterday!
Had a look and Nathan is currently winning after 6 of 15 races. Although the ABC website has already awarded him gold
Krystal’s 3rd after 6 of 10 races.
